Made a late table booking for 2 on Friday night; busy, but accommodated with a welcoming smile by the pleasant staff. A couple of pints of the new Thwaites IPA and a couple of super-tasty ‘build your own’ burgers were ordered and swiftly served…. WOW! Thick, juicy patties with the additional chosen fillings piled into a logo-seared brioche bun, with seasoned triple cooked chips on the side and a fat battered onion ring. I reckon these burgers are up there with the best I’ve had - well cooked, put together well, with ‘all the trimmings’ included. (I went with single beef patty, bacon, cheddar, American mustard and ketchup - simple but easy to get wrong!). Ellesmere’s answer to Five Guys? I think it’s actually better, cheaper, and doesn’t need a long car journey to get there. We’ll be back soon!

The staff are absolutely outstanding here , after getting lost whilst doing our sponsored walk for cancer research , we had booked a room here and was no way making it in time for our check in , after phoning up to explain the situation , Simon and Louis when out of there way to come and collect us from stranded area , on arrival we had walked 22 miles they poured us a lovely cold beer and even went out there way to make us a plate of nachos as we was starving , not only did they go out there way to make sure we was ok they also donated £20 for our just giving page, this morning we went down for breakfast I had vegetarian and my partner the full English and this was top notch food , the rooms are immaculate with shampoo and conditioner , comfy bed , fresh towels and very quiet at night time , overall a fantastic experience even after a rough start to it and we can't thank the staff enough for everything they done for us and we really do appreciate it and will definitely be returning when birmingham play Wrexham lol 😆 thank you again for going out of your way and your incredible hospitality 10/10

Went to a wedding over the weekend, knowing that it was going to be a very boozy affair we booked two nights at the Red Lion. We requested an early access to the room so we could get ready for the wedding, staff sorted it for us. Put in the Ellesmere room, a lovely room with an on suit accessed through a very low door, we called it a Hobbit hole. Lovely bath and shower, all spotlessly clean. The bed was really comfortable and everything was quiet until about 8.30am when other guests started moving around. We had a great breakfast both mornings and had an exceptional Sunday roast. We really enjoyed our stay and thought the staff welcoming and friendly. Would highly recommend for a stay or for food.

Just got back 10 minutes excited to review. We came this year in March for the first time and I was so excited to come again after the first visit the food was so amazing so I had very high hopes, We are in the area on holiday and I specifically booked the holiday just so we could visit this pub for Sunday lunch. That’s how good it is. Sounds sad I know lol but I am a massive foodie and it’s hard to find a decent pub that is decent affordable and that serves good food Let me just say the Sunday roast did not disappoint i was absolutely buzzing it tasted just as good as the first visit if not better. And the puddings hello delicious I could go on in detail on the roast, the green beans that were marinated in mint and not to mention the crispy sweet cabbage delicious the meat melted your chef needs a pay rise you are extremely lucky he/she is talented. Even if it’s a year or 2 I will definitely be back again booking another holiday just to return to this pub for a roast dinner if I lived in this village I would be the size of a whale I would eat here all the time thank god I don’t Thanks for the amazing food service and prices

One of the best vegan menus I have ever seen, with lots of varied options for vegans. I had vegan sausages, chips, peas and gravy, with vegan "honeycomb" ice-cream to follow, all very nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a lovely, Olde English atmosphere, effortlessly classy. Access from the road is either up a few steps or a ramp. Internally, there is one step up to the dining area we used. Highly recommended.
